So what is diversity anyways?

Schools, businesses, and community organizations spend a lot of time talking about "diversity." Unfortunately, for many groups, "diversity" has become little more than a buzz word -- something people love to say, but can't define or act upon. It is the goal of the NAYDC to make diversity a "standard part" of high school education, and so we first need to establish a working definition.

Diversity involves the cultivation of respect for all people, including people of different
  • Races
  • Ethnicities
  • Religions
  • Disabilities
  • Interests
  • Backgrounds
  • Sexual Orientations

Diversity, therefore, includes two interesting and equally important components.

  1. Valuing the differences among people and realizing that our differences are our assets
  2. Understanding that, regardless of our differences, we're all people, and we all deserve the same amount of respect and consideration.
